What is Inclusive Dining?

The Food Institute defines inclusive dining as “Inclusive dining entails creating an experience in which each guest can engage comfortably, regardless of ability, language, or dietary need.” This can include diners with disabilities, food allergies, and those who may have a language barrier.

Common Examples of Inclusive Dining

  • Digital Menus: These allow users to zoom in, adjust contrast, and change the view as needed. This is also a sustainable option for those looking to reduce waste like paper!
  • Self-serve Stations: These allow for those with food sensitivities, or even just picky eaters, the freedom to pick what they get!
  • Flexible Seating: This allows diners who are in wheelchairs or have mobility aids the freedom to adjust their seating as needed.

Why This Matters

Inclusivity is important because it lets your consumers know that you care about everybody’s experience, and everyone is welcome. As The Food Institute says, “As expectations around accessibility, personalization and ease of use continue to rise, technology is setting a higher standard for customer experience.“ Modern diners expect accessibility and inclusivity to be standard practice.
